SHENZHEN, China, May 17, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–UNESCO and Huawei have organized a series of online courses focusing on technology and education, as part of the Campus UNESCO program. To date, ten sessions have been organized, bringing together many students from 39 schools in 20 different countries.
Campus UNESCO is an ongoing program that offers young people aged 14 to 18 the opportunity to participate in conference-debates during which they can interact with UNESCO experts and personalities from civil society. For 90 minutes, students have the opportunity to discuss with these experts, in English or French, on subjects related to the major themes of UNESCO, namely, education, artificial intelligence, sustainable development, gender equality and citizenship.
Huawei has been a partner of this program since June 2021. The sessions organized covered a wide variety of topics such as the links between technology and education, the place of new technologies in our daily lives, today and tomorrow, or even the way in which they can help to have a positive impact on society. While many schools closed at the height of the health crisis in 2020, the students particularly appreciated the discussions around current issues on the international agenda. These topics include the changes made to schools, whether or not they are equipped with digital tools, or the need to attend face-to-face lessons, even though everything is at your fingertips on the internet.

Other important topics were also discussed during these conference-debates, including the value of digital skills in the job market and new behaviors to prevent cyberbullying, a real threat for many teenagers in an increasingly more connected where social networks are omnipresent, especially when leaving the classroom.
Sharing their experiences and points of view with these experts can make young people aware not only of the impact that new technologies have on their daily lives, but also of the central role that they themselves can play in Shaping the Future.
Speakers other than UNESCO experts may also be invited to these sessions, in particular inspiring figures from the ecosystem, such as representatives of NGOs, IGOs, and even start-ups, with various expertise ( scientists, researchers, project managers).
In line with the ambitions of the UNESCO Campus Program, Huawei and UNESCO are also partners in another project called “Technology-enabled Open Schools for All”, the implementation phase of which was launched in 2021 in Ghana, Egypt and Ethiopia. This three-year project aims to encourage the construction of resilient education systems in the face of profound changes in the world, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to equipping schools, this project also includes a training component for teachers and students in the use of digital tools, the establishment of online platforms to combine learning at school and at home, as well as the development of digital teaching programs accessible at a distance.
The “Technology-enabled Open Schools for All” project aligns with Tech4Education, which is part of Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative on digital inclusion. It aims to promote equity and quality in education through technology. Huawei’s ambition under the TECH4ALL initiative can be summed up as follows: leaving no one behind in the digital world.
