The first records of claims declarations arrived at the insurance offices, four days after the hailstorm that hit Poitou on Saturday June 4. Farmers were particularly affected during these bad weather, with farms sometimes 100% destroyed. For the moment, the insurer Groupama has received fifteen member files de la Vienne to activate crop insurance. Most come from Loudunais (Nueil-les-Aubiers, Thouars, Loudun). Proof that the storm was very localized but above all very violent: there are often between 80 and 90% loss.
Few farmers insured
In the Deux-Sèvres, forty farmers declared claims for this episode of hail on the Thouarsais, but also for that of May 22, which hit part of the Marais poitevin. For this storm which had also affected the surroundings of Chauvigny, 55 farmers have made claims in Vienne, with losses estimated between 40 and 60%.
Figures that do not depict the reality of claims, since Groupama does not insure that one out of three farmers in Poitou. Among them, few are insured against hail and have taken out crop insurance. The insurer therefore covers, in total, only one out of ten farmers.
