the German group Kontron will supply the radio communication technology for the TGV network

(Ecofin Agency) – The great revolution in the railway sector continues in Egypt. The country, whose railways have recorded several dramas in recent years with repeated accidents, has decided to renew and improve the safety of its infrastructure.

The German company Kontron Transportation has been awarded a contract to supply the GSM-R radio communication system to the Egyptian TGV network. The system, which allows traffic to be controlled and facilitates maintenance, will cover all the 2,000 km of electrified railways and the 60 railway stations, which will be the main infrastructure of the network.

“Kontron Transportation’s GSM-R technology will be implemented on all three lines. The first connects the port cities of Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea with Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria on the Mediterranean. The second connects Cairo with Abu Simbel and the third connects Luxor with Hurghada via Safaga”, the group said in a statement.

The installation of this system should help ease traffic and ensure the operation of this corridor announced as the 6th largest high-speed rail network in the world.
