Sales of electric cars continue to increase in France, with a 42% increase in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the first 3 months of 2021. And as the leader of this growing troop, two models could not be more opposed…
For a long time, the Tesla Model 3 remained the Arlesian for French motorists. Announced in the summer of 2019, it was only available in France at the very end of 2020, more than a year later. But very quickly, the American firm chose an offensive pricing policy. So much so that with the CO2 bonus of €6,000, the “3” remained under the €37,000 mark for a long time.. A substantial sum but ultimately well placed with regard to the performance of the car, even in its single-engine version, good energy management and therefore autonomy as well as the comfort provided by the network of “in-house” superchargers. As a result, the little Tesla has become the best-selling electric vehicle in France and even in Europe in 2021.relegating a Zoé comfortably installed on the throne since 2013. This is still the case in the first quarter of 2022, with 6,636 Model 3 sold, an increase of 15% compared to the first 3 months of 2021.
But behind her, it is no longer the Renault city car that points. After having pedaled at the start, in particular because of a very difficult import from China where it is manufactured, the Dacia Spring seems to be taking off. It won some 5,000 customers between January and March, thus rising to second place in the electric charts in France.

The big gap at the top of the ranking!
In fact, the leading duo of “green” car sales in France is out of place. Between an American packed with technology and ultra-efficient on one side, and a city car straight out of the 1980s on the other. Because, let’s be honest, the Spring does not deserve the 13,000 € that it claims for purchase once the CO2 bonus has been deducted. It is certainly the cheapest electric on the market by far, but its performance is not worthy of a 21st century car. For this price, we can now oppose a second-hand Zoé, much more reassuring, efficient, pleasant to drive and offering better autonomy, even the old 40 kWh version. Sometimes with 30,000 km on the clock, these models are guaranteed by the Renault network and their battery is obviously checked. Still, between the substantial increase in the price of the Model 3 and the start of the Spring’s career, the trend could well be reversed at the top of the rankings at the end of the year. On the other hand, not sure that the Peugeot e-208 and Zoé na are catching up despite a certain pragmatism.
