Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed on his Twitter account that the manufacturer is currently working on the possibility of playing video games from the Steam platform directly from the central screen of the brand’s cars.
For many months and following the announcement of the new Tesla Model S and Model X, the idea of playing AAA video games inside your electric car has become something to consider. Elon Musk had even highlighted several times the fact that his flagships would allow you to play Cyberpunk 2077, thanks in particular to the famous AMD Ryzen chip.
Since then, it’s dead calm on this subject, or almost: indeed, Tesla has confirmed that the European Model 3 and Model Y, and therefore intended for the French market, are also entitled to this famous super-powerful processor. This will increase their computing power tenfold. This is great news for everyone.
To go further, the CEO of Tesla has even confirmed that work is underway to allow Steam games to be available.
PlayStation 5 power aboard a Tesla
This has been mentioned many times by Elon Musk on Twitter, and even put forward as a selling point following the presentation of the Tesla Model S in 2021: the computing power of the new on-board computers of the Tesla Model S and Model X is comparable to that of a next-gen console like the PlayStation 5.
Yeah, new Model S & X have PS5 level entertainment computing power

However, for the moment, this computing power does not seem to be exploited at all, with only simple, classic and low-resource games – Sonic being the latest.
But the desires of the manufacturer seem to evolve if we are to believe the latest information released by Elon Musk on Twitterwhere it states that Tesla is working on the possibility of running games from the Steam platform rather than porting specific versions of certain games on board vehicles.
As a reminder, during the presentation of the new Tesla Model S and Model X, it was revealed that the graphics processor on board the infotainment system had a computing capacity of around 10 Teraflops, which is effectively equivalent to a PlayStation 5 (10.28 Teraflops – but that’s slightly below an Xbox Series X (12.15 Teraflops).
We will not fail to check in the future, if indeed, Steam games appear within the new Tesla Model S and Model X. Valve’s platform is the largest video game platform in the world on PC and is full of titles in all genres. It would be a huge blow from Tesla if it manages to make this service available to its users.
