Updated on 24/12/2021 : for once, Elon Musk kept his word! The holiday update has been distributed since early this morning and from the accounts, everyone is entitled to it, including me.

Once the installation is complete, a largely reworked interface is available, with a bar at the bottom that returns to black and which hosts colored icons. An aesthetic and also practical choice: they are much easier to spot, which is important when driving. Most important, however, is that you can change the icons displayed at the bottom of the screen. Several options are available, including direct access to music sources.
For the rest, the advertised functions are all there, including the sound and light show that I haven’t tested — I want to keep the peace with my neighbors on this Christmas day 😬. The camera display with turn signals promises to be as useful as promised and the rearrangement of steps on long journeys is a welcome addition.
On the other hand, the interface remains static and unlike the Model S and Model X, it is notably not possible to adjust the size of the map. We do not know if this will come later or if Tesla will keep two slightly different interfaces.
Small surprise: the display of cameras from the Tesla app is also available in Europe! To benefit from it, you have to update the car and the app, but also pay the premium connection at €10 per month.
Until then, this novelty had only appeared in the United States:
Tesla will allow access to the cameras of its cars remotely 🆕
It’s become a tradition at Tesla: the last annual update of its cars is a big version that brings important changes. The 2021 “holiday update” had been well confirmed by Elon Musk at the beginning of the month and it began to be distributed to a few American drivers. Enough to confirm its scale, with in particular the return of a single interface for all Tesla cars.
Since the release of the new Model S and Model X, Tesla has indeed managed two different interfaces. The Model 3 and Model Y remained with the classic interface, quite monolithic with a section dedicated to the car and its environment on the left and the maps as well as the planner on the right. You can see what it looks like today in this article:

The new interface uses the same concept, but with panels that can be resized and above all the possibility of modifying the icons at the bottom of the screen. With this update, we will be able to choose the most useful elements and place them the farthest to the left, where they will be easy to access for the driver, and relegate the less useful elements to the right. Tesla has also reduced the number of permanently displayed controls, which should make more room for a reduced number of icons and thus limit errors while driving.

But an update wouldn’t be festive without some new features to try out. The Tesla games box, which contains a few gadgets, is enriched with a ” light show which turns one or more Teslas into a sound and light show. Several new games have also been added, including Sonic the Hedgehog and the Sudoku. The game The Battle of Polytopia was already built in, but the update adds multiplayer support to it. And if you don’t want to play, you can still wait for a charge while watching TikTok videos, an app having been added with this version.
More useful perhaps, a new function will automatically activate one of the two side cameras when you activate the corresponding indicator. It’s an idea that Tesla stole from the competition, we came across it in particular on the new electric cars of the Hyundai group, and it is practical for clearing the blind spot while driving. It should also be very useful to ensure that we do not hit anything, a useful measure for a car with American standards.
Other new features are also planned, such as automated management of heated seats, the possibility of modifying stages during a journey or even access to videos recorded by the Dashcam function, which is automatically activated during an incident. or with the buzzer. So many small novelties that are common at Tesla: cars evolve regularly over several years.
Constant updates will be the subject of one of the future articles of my ongoing series on Tesla:
