A 2021 attempt did not garner enough signatures by the filing deadline to proceed to voting.

According to data provided by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, homicides are down 40% from this point last year; however, robberies and aggravated assaults increased by more than 11%.

“The deputies are going to keep doing their job, they’re making the arrests, they’re writing the reports, but what happens after he’s been submitted to the DA is where it all falls apart,” Villanueva said.
