JCB unveils the latest version of its Fastrac

JCB is adding more technology to its Fastrac 4000 and 8000 series tractors. Gone is the dashboard, replaced by a 7-inch screen that provides clear forward visibility. The manufacturer has not forgotten the comfort of the operator, who can configure up to 50 user profiles and thus personalize the driver’s environment as desired. Not to mention the precision farming functions and Isobus compatibility.

JCB unveiled the latest generations of its Fastrac 4000 and 8000 series tractors. Main development: the electronic architecture of the car offering more performance and comfort to the operator in terms of customization.

Clearly, the operator benefits from a three-component environment:

  • iConfigure to personalize the commands according to the user,
  • iConnect to integrate precision farming functions,
  • iControl to redefine operations through transmission management.

The iCon tractor range, from 175 to 348 hp of power, therefore benefits from the multifunction armrest of the same name and the touch screen, a combination offering greater simplicity for the operator. The device has also been designed to control the transmission even more efficiently. Without forgetting the Isobus compatibilitythe GPS guidance and tool control applications that do not require an additional screen.

A 7-inch screen as a dashboard

Another novelty: the 7-inch screen installed in front of the operator as a dashboard which provides better visibility, both forwards and to the sides, and improves readability. The joystick fixed to the armrest and the LED-coloured control levers are used to control the electro-hydraulic distributors, the front and rear power take-offs and the hitch. The second joystick manages the auxiliary functions and the encoder dial offers an alternative to touch screens.

Each colored lever can receive the hydraulic function chosen by the operator, just like the four-axis joystick and its rocker switch. Even for night work, the controls are easy to distinguish thanks to the luminous color code.

Screen question, the 12 inch touch terminal Allows the driver to view detailed operating information. By swiping to the right, the details of the settings of the six distributors appear. The third window displays the camera image and the Isobus commands if the tool benefits from it. To facilitate the management of “headlands”, the operator can record up to 50 movements automatically. Finally, the screen that replaces the dashboard, 7 inches, displays the speed, the engine speed and certain information on the tractor.

Automatic sensing pedal or lever driving

Question transmissionthe STC technology (Smart Transmission Control) is the speed-based system. The driver sets the target value and the tractor adapts the engine speed and the gear to be engaged in order to minimize fuel consumption, whatever the load.

No need to select the driving mode, the joystick or the pedal are automatically activated when one or the other is used; note the function that allows you to choose one of the two configurations when the transmission is controlled via the joystick. Farmers who already have a Fastrac in the yard may wish to continue using the JCB Classic setting, to adjust forward speed by moving the joystick left and right, and selecting direction by moving it forward and backward.

Others will no doubt opt for the JCB Pro mode which requires pushing forwards and pulling backwards to increase or decrease forward speed. A flick to the left activates forward/reverse gear and to the other side engages the thumbwheel switch managing the speed range.

Precision farming functions

As an option, the tractor can control the implements hitched to the rear and to the front thanks to the Isobus interface of the touch screen. In this case, the auxiliary joystick can receive tailor-made functions to take control of the tool. On the side of GPS guidancethe brand installs the Novatel Smart-7 receiver to control the direction. Note the possibility of accessing dose modulation and section cut-off (optional). Thanks to the GPS predisposition, the farmer can then equip his mount with other guidance and precision farming solutions.

In terms of ease of use, the JCB Rapid Steer function reduces the number of turns of the steering wheel required to maneuver at the headland. Twin Steer is also available on 4000 Series models with four-wheel steering. It provides individual axle guidance for precise tool positioning.

The air conditioning has been automated and benefits from a solar load sensor and cabin ambient temperature control. What to react quickly as soon as the environment changes. Storage issue, compartment and cup holder located to the right of the operator, storage box on the armrest and nets at the rear of the JCB Command Plus cabin… so many items of equipment that complete the drawer installed under the seat or the refrigerated compartment.

Finally in terms of comfort, the Briton installs his high-end air suspension seat, heated and ventilated as a bonus. It is accessible in the Pro Champs pack and the Pro Line, itself available if the front linkage is installed. Not to mention the main and auxiliary LED lights, two revolving lights and the Hill Hold function (hill start) and 2WD traction control.
