The Spanish perfume manufacturer is launching new biodegradable caps baptized Vernovacaps. Iberchem’s encapsulation technology is the second to offer a biodegradable solution. According to the company, however, it is the only one whose biodegradability corresponds to the standard. Readily biodegradable of the OECD (biodegradability greater than 60% in 28 days, with continued decomposition thereafter).
Open to all Iberchem customers worldwide, this new encapsulation technology offers a minimum of 60% biobased materials. Due to their high level of biodegradability, Vernovacaps comply with the 2022 ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) proposed legislation on microplastics and the ban on non-biodegradable microplastics in 2027.
” Our fragrance technology department has worked closely with Iberchem perfumers to present new biodegradable capsules that meet our customers’ expectations both in terms of scent and performance. explains Michael White, Fragrance Technology Director at Iberchem. ” Our new Vernovacaps offer stable and robust flavors that are unaffected by the encapsulation process “.
According to Iberchem, this new technology offers the same performance as its traditional NeoCaps encapsulation technology.
The first variant of Vernovacaps was formulated for fabric softeners but the technology will later be extended to other product categories such as cosmeticssays Iberchem.
Last year, the French perfume manufacturer Sozio launched a new natural and COSMOS-certified encapsulation technology for skincare called Cosmocaps. This alternative to synthetic microcapsules aims to eliminate micro-plastics from formulations while providing cosmetic benefits.
