A historic player in maritime and transport insurance in France, Helvetia offers the digital product “e-boat” dedicated to small yachting, distributed by its partner brokers. The Helvetia group, based in Switzerland, is mainly known for insurance and pensions for individuals. In France, in which markets are you present?

Historically, Helvetia began by offering maritime and transport insurance in France, both on the Hull (pleasure, river, fishing, shipowner, port), cargo and carrier/logistician markets. With success since the group is now positioned in second place on this market! But for 5 years, Helvetia has also diversified to become a major insurer in business risks, by developing in France insurance/construction activities, technical risks, works of art, property damage, general and professional liability for companies. and vehicle fleets.

You offer the “e-boat” offer, an online boating insurance product. How did you design it?

We launched this contract to complete our existing yachting range, which only concerned the medium and large yachting segment, ie boats longer than 8 meters and worth more than 100,000 euros. The “e-boat” product is aimed at small yachts, ie 450,000 boats, three-quarters of the French market. We offer two guarantee formulas: RC navigation only or RC with damage. None is legally required, but marinas generally require at least an RC navigation certificate to be able to enter a port. Around these formulas, yachtsmen can choose to subscribe to additional options, which we have designed and which we are developing based on feedback from our partner brokers: 24/7 breakdown assistance (loss of key, engine failure, etc.), individual marine and legal protection.

What is the added value of “e-boat” on the insurance market?

This is a one-of-a-kind product! It is easy to understand, simple and clear. In the event of a claim, the insured knows immediately what compensation to expect, by consulting the abatement rate grid defined for each position on the boat (propeller, rigging, upholstery, etc.), without waiting for the opinion of the ‘expert. This reduces the compensation period and any unpleasant surprises. This transparency is highly appreciated by pleasure boat owners. Another originality of our “e-boat” contract, we take into account the navigation experience of the insured, who is rewarded by a refined rate as close as possible to his skills. Finally, this entirely digital contract can be subscribed with ease: 5 questions and a few clicks.

What support do you offer brokers on this e-boat product?

Yacht insurance is distributed by generalist brokers, general agents and brokers specializing in yachting. As soon as they obtain Helvetia approval, they are then autonomous on our online portal HelvetiaNet for the establishment of online quotes and the subscription of contracts for their boating customers. In the event of a claim, the intermediary retains control of declaring the event and will be in direct contact with our compensation department, by telephone or e-mail. Our teams in the field are also at their service for all their daily requests. And to help our partner brokers to present the characteristics of our “e-boat” contract, we set up physical or remote presentation sessions every year.
