Go straight to jail! – Europol is actively seeking Ruja Ignatova, the founder of the OneCoin Ponzi scheme. The latter has been one of the most wanted fugitives in Europe since Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Indeed, Ruja Ignatova is leading one of the biggest scams in crypto history, OneCoin. She also inspired the BBC, which launched a series of podcasts on her journey, “The Missing Cryptoqueen”.
OneCoin, from Ponzi to Europol, without going through square one
Ruja Ignatova has therefore joined Europol’s most wanted list. Criminal police agency officials suspect her of being the “driving force and intellectual inventor” of OneCoin. According to them, she “encouraged investors around the world to invest in this effectively worthless currency”.
OneCoin relied on selling cryptocurrency trading educational packs to its members. Each member, incentivized by commissions, was tasked with selling these packs to even more new members. At the height of the program, OneCoin claimed to represent 3 million people worldwide. This represents many victims.
As a result, US Attorneys for the Southern District of New York looked at OneCoin executives. They charged them with wire fraud, securities fraud and money laundering in 2019. Among the defendants were Ruja Ignatova, Konstantin Ignatov, her brother, as well as Mark Scott.

Ruja Ignatova’s head for €5,000
Police arrested Konstantin Ignatov, the brother of the ‘Cryptoqueen’ in March 2019. Mark Scott, meanwhile, was apprehended in September 2018. However, at present, Ruja Ignatova is still at large.
Adding Ruja Ignatova to Europe’s most wanted list expands the scope of the search. Europol offers a cash reward of €5,000 (about $5,250) for any information that could lead to his arrest. This greatly increases the likelihood that the police will one day be able to bring her to justice.
Mark Scott was convicted by a federal jury in Manhattan in 2019. Konstantin Ignatov signed a plea deal the same year. This means that the brother of our “Cryptoqueen” will not face any further criminal charges.
The OneCoin affair and its aftermath turned out to be one of the messiest in crypto history. While waiting for the film “Fake! ”, based on this infamous scam with actress Kate Winslett, you can watch the documentary on the QuadrigaCX case on Netflix.
