Finally ready to hit the road, AMG’s first hypercar will have been delayed many times, but this insane challenge to homologate a hypercar equipped with an F1 engine for the road is now complete and present in its production version this very morning. the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the brand.
The carbon body features a design inspired by the premier class of motorsport. But it embodies above all the union between fascination and functionality, a principle dear to Mercedes-AMG. Each element performs a specific function. Thus, the concept of a mid-engine based on a carbon monocoque plus a semi-carrying engine/gearbox unit imposes extremely muscular proportions: cockpit placed very forward, typical of racing, combined with voluminous wheel arches, a size wasp and a very wide rear. Also new exclusively for the Mercedes-AMG ONE are the 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels with central lock and partial carbon radial cover in a very sophisticated aerodynamic design. Hydraulically controlled active aerodynamics increase downforce on the front and rear axles.
The cabin of the monocoque, daring in its minimalism, highlights reduced components and highlights their design and function.
The ergonomic cabin can accommodate two people. The fixed sculpture of the racing seat shell aesthetically harmonises the legroom to form a unity.
This monster equipped with a 1.6L V6 turbo supported by two electric motors for the front wheels announces 1,063 hp and a maximum speed of 352 km/h. The internal combustion engine, installed in the central rear position and boosted by an original electric turbocharger which blows 3.5 bars, can run up to 11,000 rpm. But its carbon footprint is barely worse than that of an A-Class AMG! Indeed, the standard version of the Mercedes-AMG ONE announces fuel consumption of 8.7 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 198 g/km. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an all-new 7-speed manual gearbox developed especially for the Mercedes-AMG ONE.
The one-of-a-kind hypercar not only excites with its E PERFORMANCE Formula 1 hybrid drive, but also with other motorsport technologies. These range from the carbon monocoque and bodywork, to the push-rod chassis, to the semi-carrying engine/gearbox unit and active aerodynamics. Thanks to its complex technology, the two-seater Mercedes-AMG ONE sometimes even offers more than a Formula 1 racing car. It features the variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with hybrid drive at the rear axle, electric drive at the front axle and with torque vectoring. In addition, it can also drive in purely electric mode for 18 km thanks to a high-performance battery of only 8.4 kWh.
The front wheels of the Mercedes-AMG ONE are fitted with 10.0 J x 19 rims fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 M01 tires in the 285/35 ZR 19 format and specially developed for the hypercar, while its rear wheels sport 12.0 J x 20 rims and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 M01 tires in 335/30 ZR 20 format. . The front axle has 6-piston fixed calipers and ventilated and perforated brake discs in the format 398 x 38 millimetres. Fixed 4-piston calipers are fitted to the rear axle, along with ventilated and perforated 380 x 34 millimeter brake discs.
The implementation of this extremely complex development was carried out in close cooperation with the Formula 1 experts at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains Brixworth. It is also in Great Britain that the Mercedes-AMG ONE will be officially presented for the first time in action, as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed (from June 23 to 26, 2022).
