Bulk Electricity Trading plans to buy 40MW from Mabon hydropower plant

(Ecofin Agency) – Faced with the difficulties in electricity supply in Nigeria, and the ever-increasing weight of fossil resources in the production to remedy them, hydroelectricity appears to be a solution that would also help to reduce carbon emissions.

The Nigerian company Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), informed during a meeting held on Tuesday April 12 in Abuja, that it intends to buy 40 MW at the Mabon hydroelectric power station. The said plant is operated by Mabon Energy and is located in the Dadin Kowa region, in the state of Gombe.

“This meeting is a prelude to the finalization of the power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Mabon hydroelectric plant for 40 MW. It is part of a series of actions that the wholesale trader will undertake before concluding the PPA with the Mabon hydroelectric power plant”, said Henrietta Ighommore, communications manager at NBET.

Nigeria is struggling to satisfy its people when it comes to energy. The previous weekend, the national power grid collapsed for the second time in a month, leaving several parts of the country without power.
