A choice linked above all to financial reasons and cost savings, as underlined by the various managers present.

In the range of current models, especially in the Tesla Model 3 and the Tesla Model Y, the manufacturer has ruled out the integration of this type of architecture because it would entail an enormous financial burden which would be reflected little in the final improvement of the product. .

According to Andrew Baglino, senior vice president of energy and powertrain engineering at Tesla, the benefits they and the customer could derive would be minimal while the selling price and cost of production would increase. considerably.

Going from 400 to 800 volts would entail huge costs for the company, mainly in updating the charging infrastructure of the vehicles, as well as incorporating the whole system into the vehicle itself to make it work with high voltage levels.
